HOW TONY BECAME A
WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER IN THE PHILADELPHIA AND NEW JERSEY METRO AREA
I just love to photograph weddings. No other event is quite like it. The wedding
day is like a giant production number with a million things happening at once
with everyone running around like crazy. It really is just so much
fun. I look forward to it every week. While doing some routine task,
I'll often catch myself thinking of some pose or another or some treatment of a
photograph that will help make this week's wedding special to this bride. I will
find interesting poses in the art museums in the works of the great masters, in
photography journals, and in the tabloids on supermarket shelves. I never
know where something great will come from. But I do know this. Every
wedding I photograph will be different, and every wedding will be my best to
that point. Every bride deserves that.
As for many things in life,
I started in wedding photography through serendipity. It all began when I
gave my new bride, Andie, a fancy new 35mm Konica camera as a wedding
present. We loved to travel and the little 110 instamatic just wasn't
enough to capture the depth and quality of our adventures. We especially
liked camping and sightseeing. Our honeymoon was to be a two week camping
trip through New England and Canada and for us to capture the beauty of our trip
a new camera was in order. We had also planned an extended European
vacation for the next summer and I figured this would be a great splurge.
Well, she loved the
gift, and we both became fairly proficient at amateur photography. There
are lots of great sites and events around Philadelphia to photograph. It
had never occurred to me to do wedding photography at that point. As an
anniversary gift one year, my very thoughtful wife gifted me with admission to a
Nikon School of Photography course. Wow, did this ever spark my
imagination. Lots of cool photography came from this. I learned to
look at the world more artistically.
Around that time, I became
close friends with a guy who was turning his lifelong love of photography into a
trade. In other words, to support his photography habit, he began selling
his services to a wedding photography studio in New Jersey. As time went
by, he began doing wedding photography on his own in New Jersey and Philadelphia
and had begun to make a name for himself. As you can imagine, we began to
see less and less of each other, what with him working most every Saturday doing
wedding photography in Philadelphia and New Jersey, and our friendship began to
fade. Rather than lose our closeness, he suggested that I accompany him on
a few of his wedding photography jobs in New Jersey and Philadelphia, just to
help him with equipment and such, so that we could spend some time
together. Well, as you can imagine, one thing led to another, and I ended
up with a camera in my hand taking wedding photography in the New Jersey and
Philadelphia Metro areas. After a while, and many thousands of dollars
invested in professional wedding photography equipment, I started doing wedding
photography for my friends and family. I then started working around at
other wedding photography studios, developing my craft and generally having fun,
until I chose to go off on my own. And it has always been great fun.
I would never have
dreamed that day when I picked out that 35 mm Konica for my wife that I would
have become a wedding photographer in the major metropolitan area of
Philadelphia. I never tire of it, and wedding photography never gets
boring. Each wedding is an exciting expedition into the unknown. I never
know on what new and unusual circumstance will challenge my skills as a wedding
photographer and an organizer on wedding day. Each bride and groom are
unique and deserve special care and individualized attention. Because they
are essentially amateurs at wedding day events they often look to me as a
wedding professional to help guide them through the experience of their wedding
day and maximize their fun. The task is often difficult, but never
impossible; and therein lies the challenge...and the fun! I really do
enjoy what I do, Wedding photography in the Philadelphia Metro and New Jersey
area, and I wouldn't trade it for any other job I can think of. Where else
can I spend the day with interesting people about to embark on the journey of
their lives at fun and interesting venues throughout the Philadelphia and New
Jersey metro areas and get to take artistic and creative wedding photography at
the same time. And believe you me, the emphasis must be on creative,
because I don't want my wedding photography to look like anyone else's in the
Philadelphia and New Jersey area. My brides and grooms are special and so
is their wedding photography.
So
there you have it: my story. How Tony became a wedding photographer in the
Philadelphia metro and New Jersey areas.
